ABOUT
KIRTANIYAS is a collective of internationally-based conscious artists. Raised in the mystic vedic traditions of India, these second generation of chanters have cultivated their passion for song, dance, philosophy, and devotional arts through experiences in ashrams, communities, and temples across India and the Western world.
Touring for more than 15 years, they have spread the ancient art of mantra chanting to global audiences through a unique fusion of rich vedic culture, world music and rhythmic chant-dance experiences. Founder Vijay Krsna, together with co-founder singer Sarasvati Dasi, vocalist Rasika Dasi, dancer Malini Taneja, poet Jamuna Sheth, and multi-instrumentalist Vraj Mohan, have traveled to over 30 countries, accumulating an astounding 50,000,000+ YouTube hits.
Besides the largely traditional approach to their acoustic sets, KIRTANIYAS now push the boundaries of genre to combine all of their passions into one new and unique sound. Melodious dance orientated ‘Worldbeat’ music meets the call and response singing of ancient Sanskrit mantras, accompanied by live acoustic instruments and electronic DJ sets.
The band members are multi-instrumentalists accomplished in traditional Indian style vocals, harmonium, classical violin, tabla and mridangam drums, hand cymbals, bells, gub-gubi, electronic music production and classical Bharatnatyam dance. They have collaborated with artists such as Cheb i Sabbah, Kula Shaker, The Polish Ambassador, Jai Uttal, MC Yogi, Sol Rising, DJ Drez, Hiatus, Fanna Fi Allah, The Hanuman Project and others.
